Although the impressionist painter Jan Jans was an Amsterdammer in heart and soul, he saw the landscape art of the Hague School as his great example. His most popular subjects were dune landscapes, river landscapes and harbours. Jans was originally a house and decorative painter, but around 1907 opted for an artistic career. As a member of St. Lucas and The Onafhankelijken, he frequently took part in exhibitions in our capital.
