The abstract-lyrical, spontaneous paintings of the French painter Jean Miotte are considered part of the post-war Ecole de Paris. In the 1950s he regularly took part in the exhibitions of the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in Paris. In 1961 he made his first trip to the United States, where he lived almost permanently after that. There he was strongly influenced by jazz music, whose spontaneity and improvisational character he admired. Miotte exhibited in both the United States and Europe and from 1972 also had a studio in Hamburg. Museums: including Guggenheim Museum in New York and Museé d'Art Moderne in Paris
