Joan Berg received his painting education from August Allebé in Amsterdam and then attended the academy in Antwerp. He lived in Paris between 1884 and 1903. His specialty were portraits and genre paintings, especially of Zeeland peasant life. In Paris he painted cityscapes, among other things.
