Belgian painter of landscapes and beach views. He lived and worked most of his life in The Hague, where he also died in 1888. He was taught by B.J. van Hove and A. Schelfhout. The influence of the latter painter can be found in his work in composition and motifs. His contemporaries were particularly interested in the beach views that he made in imitation of Schelfhout. He probably also made a number of trips to Germany.
