Gerardus van Jole is one of the painters who were influenced by the impressionism of the Hague School in around 1900. The painter was born in Hentenisse in 1877 and moved to The Hague in 1901, where he quickly developed a taste for painting sea and beach views, farmyards, Hague cityscapes and interiors. He regularly sketched and painted together with A.J. Groenewegen. Van Jole took an active part in artistic life in The Hague and was a member of Pulchri Studio. He left a very small oeuvre.
