When the name of the painter, sculptor and assembly artist Klaas Gubbels falls, many people immediately think of his tables and coffee pots, the main motives in his work. The limited subject choice and the very consistent style, characterized by simplicity and a template-like set up, are Gubbels' trademark. The coffee pot, with an upwardly tapered holder and an elegantly curved spout, has now acquired an almost iconic status. The table stands alone or as a carrier of the coffee pot and other eating cutlery such as cups and plates. Sometimes he paints reclining or sitting women. Gubbels creates paintings on canvas and small sculptures, but also wall paintings and monumental sculptures, sometimes of a very large size.
