Important Belgian livestock painter and watercolourist. Robbe was educated at the Academy in Kortrijk and then with the famous landscape painter J.B. de Jonghe. He also received advice from the cattle painter E. Verboeckhoven. For a long time he combined his painting with a career as a lawyer. Already in his time he was very successful. The realism of his animals was especially appreciated and Robbe influenced a generation of animal painters after him, including Joseph Stevens and Alfred Verwee. Most of the important Belgian museums own work by him.
