Louis Rollet belonged to the French 'peintres voyageurs', painters who left for the French colonies to gain inspiration. Especially Asia and Africa attracted his attention. Rollet painted landscapes and local residents there. The colour tones with which he worked reflect the atmosphere and character of these exotic landscapes. From 1921 Rollet exhibited at various salons in France. He also won several prizes, including the Prix de l'Indochine in 1930, a French art prize for colonial art. Until about 1945 he also taught at the Cambodian art academy.
