Danish painter of naturalistic genre paintings, both indoors and outdoors. He studied theology and art history before attending art school from 1879 to 1882. Subsequently, together with Niels Skovgaard, he made many trips through Europe, including to Holland, Belgium, Paris, Greece and Italy.
