German landscape painter Marie Weber, born in the late 19th century, studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts from 1903 to 1906 and subsequently at the Berlin Academy. Before that, she taught at a girls' secondary school. After graduating from the academy, she traveled throughout Germany, Switzerland, and the Mediterranean, eventually settling in Schwerin. Here, she primarily painted atmospheric depictions of her homeland, the state of Mecklenburg with its numerous lakes, which borders the Baltic coast in northern Germany. These were often beach scenes that betray the colorful palette and loose brushwork of the Impressionists of the early 20th century.
