Max Rabes was one of the most celebrated artists of the German Belle Epoque. He lived and worked in Berlin, where he was a professor at the art academy and also developed into a beloved painter of genre scenes, nudes and portraits. Rabes traveled extensively, not only in Europe but also to North Africa and the Middle East, which is reflected in his cityscapes and landscapes. The painter's work is especially popular for its narrative content and colourful palette.
