The German genre and landscape painter Menno Mühlig, along with his son and brother, belonged to the Dresden Circle of the late Romantic movement. While some themes drew inspiration from the 17th century, he also had a remarkable eye for the social and artistic changes unfolding around him. He captured what he saw in a realistic style with a warm coloured palette – itinerant artists, poachers' scenes, workshops, farmyards, drinking parties, and hunting scenes.
