Otto Modersohn belongs to the German avant-garde of the early 20th century. Painters who, like in other places, discovered the expressiveness of colour from Impressionism. Around 1889 he was one of the founders of the artists' colony in Worpswede. Painted beautiful colourful landscapes there around 1904. He was married to Paula Modersohn. He painted this flower still life when he was about seventy years old, but the power of his colors is unmistakable.
