From 1914 to 1920 Von Waetjen was married to the famous French painter Marie Laurencin. They stayed in Spain during the First World War. From 1919 Von Waetjen lived and worked in Düsseldorf, later in Munich. He painted various subjects such as nudes, landscapes and scenes in cafés and night rooms.
