Petrus Kiers, born in 1807, received his education at the academy in Amsterdam, where he also lived and worked. He specialized in romantic light effects, such as interiors with candle and lamp light and landscapes by moonlight. Petrus was married to the painter Elisabeth Alida Haanen, descendant of a well-known family of painters. Their talents passed on to two of their children: Catharina Isabella, who mainly painted flowers and fruits, and George Lourens the landscape painter. Petrus Kiers was not only a painter but also an etcher and lithographer and member of Arti et Amicitiae.
