Spanish artist Pedro 'Pierre' Ribera moved to France as a young adult, probably to study art in Paris; he later acquired French citizenship. He was taught by Léon Bonnat (1833-1922), famous portraitist and teacher of famous artists such as Gustave Caillebotte, Georges Braque and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. He exhibited at the Paris Salon where he was awarded in 1907. Between 1900 and 1930 Ribera made many trips, including to the Far East, North Africa and South America. This influences can be seen in his work. He painted portraits, nudes and figures, landscapes and genre scenes. He also made wall paintings, including in the Victoria Eugenia Theater in San Sebastian and the Casino in Monte-Carlo.
