Pieter Starreveld was a versatile artist: he is best known as a sculptor, but also worked as a painter, draftsman, graphic artist, advertising designer, medalist, enamel artist and glass artist. He was educated at the Institute for Applied Arts Education and at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. In the 1950s he also took lessons from the influential sculptor Gijs Jacobs van de Hof, from whom he learned bronze casting according to the 'à cire perdue' method. In figurative style, Starreveld mainly depicted portraits, women and animal figures. Greek mythology was also a source of inspiration for him. Starreveld was a member of the Dutch Circle of Sculptors.
