Pieter Wilhelm Millenaar was born in Kleef in 1887, moved to Arnhem at a young age and lived in The Hague from 1913. There he worked as a stonemason and furniture designer and gradually developed into an independent painter and sculptor. He was educated at the Hague Drawing Academy and received painting lessons from Willy Fleur. His preference was the faithful portrayal of still lifes and flowers. He also drew landscapes and animals in a freer, impressionistic style.
