Provenance: Geschonken door het personeel van de Koloniale Bank te Amsterdam aan directeur W. Labohm ter gelegenheid van zijn 40-jarig jubileum in 1936.
Raden Basoeki Abdullah became famous in Indonesia as a portraitist. Initially he mainly painted landscapes, but soon discovered his talent as a figure and portrait painter. This made him very wealthy, as he also frequently painted the Soekarno family. In 1993, this beloved artist was killed in a robbery. He also painted for Sukarno and compiled his art collection.
