Strangely enough, Theo van Eijsden's work has hardly been known outside of a small circle of admirers. Van Eijsden lived and worked for most of his life in The Hague, where he was a member of Pulchri Studio and for some time Fugare. Initially he painted figuratively, briefly attended the academy in The Hague and received advice from the impressionist Willem de Zwart and Willem van Konijnenburg. A tendency towards a simplification of form is visible in the painter's work, which led to modest, simple still lifes and in the 1960s also to completely abstract compositions. Museums: including The Hague Municipal Museum.
