Provenance: part. bezit Frankrijk.

The Italian-French painter Ulisse Caputo gained fame with images of elegant, sophisticated women in an interior or in evening wear, cafe and theater scenes and cityscapes. Characteristic of his work is the use of beautiful, saturated colors and the attention the painter pays to the texture of fabrics, patterns, embroidery and other details. Caputo was born as son of the scenographer of the Teatro Verdi in Naples, studied at the academy of that city and moved to Paris in 1900, where he would live for the rest of his life. He became known from 1909, partly due to his marriage to the daughter of the publisher and collector Angelo Sommaruga. He then exhibits at the Salon in Paris, the Biennale in Venice and at many other international exhibitions.
