The romantic figure and genre painter Valentijn Bing initially focused on the history painting, but later specialized in painting interiors with figures and pastoral scenes. Bing was educated at the academy in Amsterdam and in 1839 became a member of the artists' society 'Arti et Amicitiae' there. He has collaborated with Jan Braet von Uberfeldt and taught J.F. Carabain, J.W. Gruyter and Marie Wandscheer.
