Wim Strijbosch studied at the Institute for Applied Arts Education in Amsterdam, where he was taught by Mart Stam and Mark Kolthoff, who set him up to paint. In 1951, Strijbosch, who already painted abstractly, probably became a member of Creatie through Anton Rooskens. The artists in this group rejected visible reality as a source and attributed emotional meaning to compositions of line and colour. Strijbosch was a versatile artist; In addition to his free work, he made decors and shop windows for De Bijenkorf, designed posters and catalogues for museums and had various monumental commissions. From the 1960s he was also a teacher and held many administrative positions.
