The Belgian impressionist Alex Denonne studied at the Academy of Brussels and was subsequently a student of Henry Luyten at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. After that he continued to live and work in this city until 1930. Farm interiors and landscapes, often painted in the Kempen, date from that period. Later he mainly painted (Brussels) city and park scenes and still lifes that stand out because of a strong use of color and a free, powerful brushstroke.
