Alfred Martin painted landscapes, genre scenes and portraits. At a young age he made study trips through Europe, living and working in various cities for a short time. With his landscapes, Martin belonged to the group of painters who depicted the Walloon landscape around 1900. Over the years, his style became sober and stylized. He also worked as an illustrator and lithographer.
