Andries Verleur was self-taught and worked as a decorative painter before he chose the free painting profession. He was then taught by Willem Maris and Théophile de Bock. Initially, Verleur lived and worked in Amsterdam. After 1900 he lived successively in Renkum and Baarn, between 1920 and 1931 in Nijkerk, and in 1940 he moved to Soest. Although the painter always lived in a wooded area, he mainly painted landscapes with cattle in an impressionist style that is very reminiscent of the Hague School. He also painted a number of waterscapes.
