The Hague painter Antje Egter van Wissekerke belonged to the group of artists who continued to adhere to the truthful representation of reality in the 20th century. She mainly searched for the atmosphere and quiet charm of the ordinary. Her style was influenced by the lessons of the art educator H.P. Bremmer, in which an objective observation of nature in a style of careful colour filling was paramount. Therefore there is a strong relationship between her work and that of Truusje van Hettinga Tromp and Corrie Pabst, both in the choice of subjects and in the elaboration. Later in life, in 1920, the painter moved to Laren.
