Anton Büschelberger, was born in 1869 into an artistic family in the Czech Republic. A year later, his family moved to Germany. He studied painting at the academy of the then artistic metropolis of Munich and subsequently settled in Dresden. Büschelberger eventually made a name for himself as a sculptor of animals and portraits, often executed in bronze. In order to portray his animals as naturally as possible, he could often be found in the Dresden Zoo. He observed them there and made countless sketches. The sculptor's paintings are also known.
