The Hungarian painter Aurel Richter lived and worked in Budapest all his life but maintained close ties with the German avant-garde painters. Around 1920 he was in the circles around the Bauhaus in Weimar and there he met Oscar Schlemmer, with whom he became good friends. Richter painted human figures in geometrically abstracted forms that show the influence of Fauvism and Cubism.
