Veth studied at the Polytechnic School in Delft and then developed into a visual artist. He painted and watercoloured landscapes and river and seascapes, for which he drew inspiration in the vicinity of Dordrecht and The Hague. The strength of his work lies in a strong sense of colour and tone, applied in large strokes to the canvas, with which he accurately reflects the mood of his impression.
