Carel Visser is considered one of the most important Dutch post-war sculptors. He also makes graphic work and ink drawings, which are often related to his sculptures. Most of Visser's work can be classified as constructivism: built-up, constructed objects, stacked shapes and often different materials. Initially he made geometric-abstract sculptures in traditional sculptor materials, especially metal; later he also incorporated unconventional materials such as car tires, feathers, sheep's wool, leather, chicken bones and eggshells in his constructions and installations. In this his most important source of inspiration, nature, is expressed. Carel Visser has been awarded many times, both with Dutch and prestigious foreign prizes.
