The self-taught Carl Eduard Ahrendts painted finely detailed romantic summer and winter landscapes, beach and city views. He worked and lived all his life in The Hague, painted in Gelderland and also traveled to Kleve, as we learn from a single panorama painting of this city. Although it is not entirely clear whether Ahrendts belonged to the student circle of B.C. Koekkoek, his work seems to have been influenced by Koekkoek in terms of subject and composition.
