Carlo Pellegrini was once called 'Poeta delle nevi', 'poet of the snow'. This Northern Italian painter made a name for himself with finely painted winter sports scenes. After his training at the 'Academia di Belle Arti di Brera' in Milan, Pellegrini specialized in painting landscapes, especially mountain landscapes. The artist found his main theme when he moved to Switzerland in 1900: snow landscapes with skiers. The ski slopes of the fashionable towns of Sankt Moritz, Davos and Adelboden were recorded by him and - after his return to Italy in 1917 - also the Italian winter sports areas. In addition to paintings, Pellegrini also designed posters and postcards. One of his works was awarded the gold medal at a painting competition organized on the occasion of the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912.
