Coba Ritsema belonged to the group of women painters known as the Amsterdam Joffers. She painted exquisite still lifes, portraits, interiors and figures. Since her style was in keeping with the prevailing taste around the turn of the 20th century, Ritsema was highly successful as a painter. She also became famous abroad for her exceptional talent and received several awards. Ritsema continued to paint well into an advanced age, but never actually dated her work.
