Conrad Kickert

A flower still life
, 73.3 x 60.3 cm, signed l.r. and dated '35

Provenance: Mw. A. Mol-Kickert, huwelijksgeschenk 1935; Hr. Mol uit Arnhem.

Conrad Kickert was a painter, collector and art critic at the same time. Because he moved from The Hague to Paris in 1912, where Cubism was in full swing, he formed a kind of traît-d'union between the French Cubists and modern Dutch painting. He was also the initiator of the 'the Moderne Kunstkring' (1911) with, among others, Gestel, Mondriaan and Sluijters as members. As a painter he was first influenced by Cubism, later he worked in a more naturalistic style. His subjects were mainly figures, landscapes and still lifes.
