With his stylized forms, shallow depth, and untypically Dutch, bright colors, Smorenberg was one of the few Art Deco painters in the Netherlands. He loved to row his boat every day for a trip across the pond dotted with water lilies, which he overlooked from his home near Loosdrecht.
