The German painter and graphic artist Emil Smidt studied at the academies in Stuttgart and Munich and then, in 1909, at the Académie Julian in Paris. Little is known about his life and work. In Impressionist style, Smidt painted idyllic landscapes and outdoor scenes, genre scenes, flower still lifes and cityscapes of Paris and German cities.
