English painter, popular for her portraits of horses and dogs. In Victorian England, it became fashionable among the nobility and the wealthy to have a favorite pet painted. Francis Mabel Hollams often depicted the animals frontally, in oil on board, with a plain background in which the wood grain of the board was clearly visible.
