The Amsterdam painter Frans Meijers was self-taught. In his early years as an artist, he primarily sculpted, but later he devoted himself fully to painting in a realistic inmpressionist style. He specialized in commissioned portraits and also regularly painted Amsterdam cityscapes, particularly in the area around Rokin, where he lived. Meijers was a member of Arti et Amicitiae.
