    Provenance: Jan Pieter Veth; daarna door vererving in bezit gekomen van Arendina Moes; erven Arendina Moes, Oakville, Ontario, Canada; daarna door vererving in bezit gekomen van de vorige eigenaar, Canada.

    Georg Rueter was educated at the Amsterdam Rijksacademie (National Academy) under the tutelage of August Allebé. He excelled in drawing and painting portraits and flower still-lifes, and at the beginning of this century was counted among the leading Dutch artists such as Breitner, Gestel, Maks and Sluijters. Rueter also worked as a glass painter, famous for his windows in the Delft Nieuwe Kerk church and St. Peter’s church in Leiden. He also developed ex-libris labels, postage stamps and book covers.
