The Belgian painter Georges Morren was a French-oriented Post-Impressionist and Luminist painter and pastelist of figures, landscapes, genre scenes and still lifes. He was educated at the academy in Antwerp, with Emile Claus and then in Paris. Renoir's influence can already be demonstrated in his earliest work. Initially he painted pointillistically; gradually he evolved towards luminism. The play of light is an important element in his still lifes, landscapes and intimate scenes of young women. Morren was part of La Libre Esthétique and Vie et Lumière.
