Gerard Delfgaauw grew up in the water-rich Westland. It is therefore not surprising that the polder landscape of his native region is an important subject in his oeuvre. He also painted village and town views, winter scenes and representations of the port of Rotterdam. Delfgaauw mainly formed himself and worked in an impressionistic-naturalistic style. The way in which he has managed to 'capture' the sunlight and its reflections in the water on the canvas is particularly appreciated.
