Colour is the starting point in the oil paints, gouaches and drawings of the Limburg painter Gijs Gijsbers. It shapes his inner world, coloured by memories and what the painter sees around him, but also plays an autonomous role. The effect of colour is always a challenge for the painter. Thus, blue recedes and red emerges. With these colours, in addition to pink, yellow, light blue and umber, the painter creates free but ordered, harmonic compositions in which he appeals to the imagination of the viewer. Gijs Gijsbers studied at the Arnhem academy, in Perugia and at the Jan van Eyck academy in Maastricht.
