Little more is known about the painter H.J van Piggelen than that he was a brother-in-law of Leo Gestel and had a studio on the Nassaukade in the 1920s. When Gestel was in Amsterdam, he regularly used this studio to work out drawings and sketches. That would also have happened in 1929 when his studio burned down. Most likely Van Piggelen got advice from Gestel.
