Hans Theodor Hallier comes from an artistic family. He was born in Tokyo, the eldest son of Emil Hallier - philologist, rector of the military academy in the Japanese capital and compiler of the German-Japanese dictionary - and painter Maria Emilie Hallier, daughter of artist Theodor Hagen. Hans Hallier lived from 1921 with his grandmother in Weimar, where he later went to art academy. After the Second World War he settled in Bremen, where he became a beloved painter. The artist also spent some time in Worpswede. He painted cityscapes of Bremen, views of the Weser with its beaches and harbours, and landscapes. Part of the latter genre are colourful, bold paintings of summer flower beds and parts of the garden.
