The landscapes, figures and still lifes of Harmen Meurs from the twenties and thirties are strongly influenced by his many journeys to France. At first his work was mainly impressionistic, later it was also influenced by cubism and expressionism. In the late 1930s, Meurs got a very strong political opinion, which is expressed in his figures and cityscapes from that period. In addition to paintings, Meurs also produced lithographs and woodcuts.
