Seattle-born American Harry Barton began his artistic career as an advertising and signage painter. In 1938 he moved to New York at the age of 30 to train as an artist. He attended the famous Art Students League of New York, an art academy where many prominent artists studied and taught. Barton met Ernest Chiriacka and Ralph DeSoto under whose influence he developed into an illustration artist. From the 1950s onwards he received many commissions from magazines and made cover illustrations for illustrious paperback series.
