Heertje van Doornik

The Linnaeusstraat in Amsterdam
oil on canvas 60.3 x 48.0 cm, signed l.l.

This painting was previously for sale.

Heertje van Doornik moved in 1891 from Blokker, North Holland, to Amsterdam to start a wine trade. When the business went well, he devoted himself to drawing and painting. He took lessons with H.M. Krabbé and Pieter Dupont and became a member of the painters’ association St. Lucas. In contrast to his contemporaries Gestel and Sluijters, he did not surrender to the experiment, but painted landscapes in the fashion of the Hague School and Amsterdam cityscapes. His oeuvre also includes ports and towns and villages around the Zuiderzee.
