Henri Heijligers was a cosmopolitan. Although he lived in the Gooi, in the Veluwe, in Katwijk and The Hague, he spent some time in Brussels and lived his last years in Nice. He also worked in Paris and Munich. The artist became widely known for his Laren peasant interiors, still lifes and beach scenes. But he also painted exceptionally beautiful mundane scenes. Heijligers was a student at the academy in The Hague and then took classes in Paris at the Academie des Beaux Arts and the studio Cormon.
