The Spanish painter Horacio Lengo y Martinez studied in Cádiz, where he had contact with the then famous painter Serafín Martínez del Rincón. Through his teacher he got to know the vibrant artistic life in Málaga. The opening of the art school in Málaga in 1851 stimulated the art market even more. After Lengo y Martinez made a name for himself in Málaga, he traveled to the artistic stronghold of Paris in about 1870, where he also exhibited at various exhibitions in 1875 and 1876. The Spanish painter is known for the refined style with which he painted detailed birds and flower still lifes. The soft colour combinations of earth tones with pink, red or blue are characteristic of him.
